Either is a first for me, and it may make any number of things better on the writing side.<\/li>\n<li>This isn&#8217;t glaciation, obviously, but having been researching the coming Ice Age for a year or so now in the service of a Neanderthals novel, I was riveted: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0EyfEDKWscg\" target=\"_blank\">A calf-deep wave of ice fragments advances across the land<\/a> like a cross between Jack Frost and The Blob.<\/li>\n<li>One way to solve <a href=\"http:\/\/www.contrapositivediary.com\/?p=2708\" target=\"_blank\">the Raspberry Pi stuttering keyboard problem<\/a> is to use a wireless keyboard\/mouse set. The one I have (the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.logitech.com\/en-us\/product\/wireless-combo-mk520\" target=\"_blank\">Logitech MK520<\/a>) works beautifully. Stutter gone. (The high road, of course, is to power everything, including the RPi itself, from a wireless hub.)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2013\/05\/08\/microsoft-mulling-nook-media-llc-purchase-for-1-billion\/\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft has offered B&amp;N $1B for the entire Nook business<\/a>, including the readers and all facets of the B&amp;N store. This says a lot less about Microsoft than it says about B&amp;N&#8211;none of it good.<\/li>\n<li>Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2013\/05\/weve-got-a-butterfly-labs-bitcoin-miner-and-its-pretty-darn-fast\/\" target=\"_blank\">an inside look at a dedicated bitcoin mining machine<\/a>. Now, could the same box mount a brute force attack against password hashes?<\/li>\n<li>A bunch of do-it-yourself Muppets present <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=75nBenOWul0\" target=\"_blank\">ten reasons why time travel is no good<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;ve discovered a spectacular new cheese: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uniekaas.com\/en_us\/products_goudaspec.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Uniekaas Black Label 3-year-old gouda.<\/a> (Scroll down.) Bears about as much resemblance to the gouda I knew as a Porsche does to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/specials\/2007\/article\/0,28804,1658545_1658533_1658030,00.html\" target=\"_blank\">Trabant<\/a>. Pair it with any dry red; I&#8217;ve had it with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.middlesisterwines.com\/The_Wines\/Rebel_Red_Blend\/\" target=\"_blank\">Middle Sister Rebel Red<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gnekowwinery.com\/Wine_Store\/2010_Old_Vine_Zinfandel,_Lodi\" target=\"_blank\">Campus Oaks Old Vine Zinfandel<\/a>. Actually, it pairs well with Real Sangria. Or, for that matter, whole milk. Sheesh, even dead air. We get it at Whole Foods. Try it.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/health_and_science\/medical_examiner\/2013\/05\/reform_physical_education_gym_class_shouldn_t_require_team_sports.html\" target=\"_blank\">Still another voice calling for an end to team sports in schools<\/a>. Team sports are how we teach high schoolers that alpha males can do whatever they want to the people below them on their ill-begotten ladders.<\/li>\n<li>Want another reason? <a href=\"http:\/\/deadspin.com\/infographic-is-your-states-highest-paid-employee-a-co-489635228\" target=\"_blank\">The most highly paid state employees in nearly all states are&#8230;college sports coaches<\/a>.
