I&#8217;m thinking I&#8217;m going to have to drain the sprinkler system yet again.<\/li>\n<li>The end must be near: Jeff spent some time fooling with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.samsung.com\/us\/windows-8-pcs\/intel-ultra-thin-tablets\/\" target=\"_blank\">a Samsung ATIV running Windows 8<\/a>&#8230;and was impressed. It&#8217;s a 12&#8243; tablet with a dockable keyboard, not unlike a bigger version of my Transformer Prime. The first thing the Best Buy sales guy showed me was how to flick away the Windows 8 UI like a bug. What remained was enough like Windows 7 to be usable.<\/li>\n<li>Alas, Office 2000 will not run on Windows 8. Nor will Office 2003. But <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atlantiswordprocessor.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">Atlantis<\/a> will. As will <a href=\"http:\/\/www.libreoffice.org\/download\/system-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\">Libreoffice<\/a>. Not sure about AbiWord.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Cmdr_Hadfield\/status\/328920180241596417\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\">Something shot a hole in one of the ISS solar panels.<\/a> Guys, the Universe is armed and dangerous.<\/li>\n<li>And unpredictable. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceweather.com\/images2013\/30apr13\/hmi4096_blank.jpg?PHPSESSID=6k7cjjpapkc663m9g166kuv8o5\" target=\"_blank\">There are now more spots on the Sun than I&#8217;ve seen in years<\/a>. Will need to spin the dials a little later today to tell if it&#8217;s doing us any good.<\/li>\n<li>Wikipedia&#8217;s psycho editing community got on the wrong side of feminists recently, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/2013\/04\/29\/wikipedias_shame\/\" target=\"_blank\">Salon did a nice piece on &#8220;revenge editing.&#8221;<\/a> Requiring that real names be published for all editors would help this problem a lot. (If I had a Wikipedia entry, I&#8217;m sure I&#8217;d be vandalized for saying this.)<\/li>\n<li>Poking around Salon led to this: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/2013\/04\/27\/we_tried_to_weaponize_the_weather\/\" target=\"_blank\">We once tried to weaponize the weather.<\/a> (So much for those bucolic 1950s that everybody seems to love.) Of course, the key to weaponizing the weather is knowing where to deploy your butterflies.<\/li>\n<li>Suddenly I&#8217;m seeing <a href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/5995464\/these-adorable-animal-wine-racks-will-make-getting-drunk-feel-so-cute\" target=\"_blank\">the word &#8220;adorable&#8221; used with what appears to be a straight face<\/a>.
