In this case, it&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/gumroad.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gumroad<\/a>, a technology that allows retail sales on Twitter. I need to look more closely, but I could certainly get behind that. And&#8211;yeek!&#8211;a real use for Twitter!<\/li>\n<li><a href= \"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/13-nutrition-lies-that-made-the-world-sick-and-fat-2013-10\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Nutrition is full of all kinds of nonsense.&#8221;<\/a> Boy, is it <em>ever<\/em>. (Thanks to Erik Anderson for the link.)<\/li>\n<li><a href= \"http:\/\/www.plosgenetics.org\/article\/info:doi\/10.1371\/journal.pgen.1004860\" target=\"_blank\">Ibuprofen (Advil) appears to extend the lifespan of several species<\/a>, mostly way down the complexity chain from humans. Ibuprofen is not without side effects; like most NSAIDS, it hits the stomach lining harder harder than acetaminaphen (Tylenol) and I avoid it for heartburn reasons. I&#8217;d certainly like to see further research on whether the effect still exists on much lower doses.<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;m not sure torrenting was ever really safe, but with <a href= \"https:\/\/torrentfreak.com\/swedish-police-raid-the-pirate-bay-site-offline-141209\/\" target=\"_blank\">the disappearance of the real Pirate Bay<\/a> and the appearance of <a href= \"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/there-are-gonna-be-9280928-pirate-bays-because-anyone-c-1673260311\" target=\"_blank\">Pirate Bay clones<\/a>, <a href= \"http:\/\/www.makeuseof.com\/tag\/pirate-bay-closure-security-nightmare-waiting-happen-priority\/\" target=\"_blank\">the risks have definitely increased<\/a>. I&#8217;m also guessing that a lot of the traffic that once ran through TPB has now gone &#8220;black&#8221; and moved to private trackers and <a href= \"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seedbox\" target= \"_blank\">seedboxes<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href= \"http:\/\/www.mondaynote.com\/2014\/12\/08\/the-rise-of-adblock-reveals-a-serious-problem-in-the-advertising-ecosystem\/\" target=\"_blank\">Several French publishers are suing the creators of AdBlock Plus for ruining their business model<\/a>. My position: Accept financial liability for serving malware in your ads, and I&#8217;ll stop blocking your ads.<\/li>\n<li>My guess is that the waittress will look at you funny if you order corned-beef <a href= \"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/before-the-hashtag-there-was-the-octothorpe-1672570850\" target=\"_blank\">octothorpe<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Carol and I got our flu shots some time back, but <a href= \"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/12\/05\/health\/cdc-warns-that-flu-season-may-be-more-deadly-than-usual.html\" target=\"_blank\">it may do us (and you) less good than we all think<\/a>. The virus mutated after work began on this year&#8217;s virus, and the vaccine is nowhere near as effective against the mutated strain as it is against the others. No cons for us this season.<\/li>\n<li>David Brooks generally isn&#8217;t funny. But when he is, yikes! <a href= \"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/12\/17\/opinion\/brooks-the-thought-leader.html\" target=\"_blank\">He bends it like Jonathan Swift<\/a>. (If you&#8217;re not behind the paywall, search for &#8220;Brooks The Thought Leader&#8221;.)<\/li>\n<li><a href= \"http:\/\/sploid.gizmodo.com\/magnets-can-attract-your-corn-flakes-and-this-is-why-1667164823\" target=\"_blank\">Corn flakes are (mildly) magnetic<\/a>.
